At UFC we know our programs work, because we see it in the faces of our youth every day – when Eric gets an A on his algebra test, when Vonetta is accepted into the college of her choice, when Tasha gains the self-confidence to communicate her feelings, when Tim finds an apartment and when Steven is offered the job he worked so hard to get. We also know our programs work because our outcomes show that more foster youth are graduating from high school, attending and graduating from college, and finding jobs and stable places to live.

Our funders and supporters expect to see results when they invest in UFC and we are committed to providing them with concrete evidence that we are doing our job and ensuring that foster youth are creating better lives for themselves. This year we moved away from a paper tracking system and implemented our Social Solutions ETO database. We are now able to record electronically, in a much more efficient manner, all programmatic information, demographics and services delivered to the youth in our Housing and Education Programs. We are excited to use this versatile tool and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our service delivery, evaluation, and outcomes tracking.

During 2009-2010, we brought UFC programming to more foster youth in Southern California and witnessed exciting developments throughout the year. Construction began at the Palace Hotel project in Long Beach, we opened our second College Readiness hub site and we accepted a record number of students into our College Sponsorship Program. All of this means that we are moving forward with our plan for growth, yet cautiously and responsibly, in accordance with our strategic goals. We are confident that, true to our history, UFC can continue to meet the challenges presented to us in a responsible and sustainable manner.

* UFC remains in contact with 74% of Pathways Program alumni
** 2004 inaugural College Readiness class graduated in June 2010
*** 2004 College Sponsorship class graduated in six years or less

United Friends of the Children

United Friends of the Children is all about relationships. We believe that the way to have a deep and lasting impact in the lives of foster youth is to be with them over the long haul. That is why our programs focus on commitment and consistency, building relationships with youth over an extended period. UFC encourages foster youth to develop vision and initiative and gives them the tools, motivation, support, and opportunities they need to become independent, successful adults, leading fulfilled lives.
